Introduction
What do you think of when you hear the word idealism? Maybe you think about the many political ideologies throughout history, such as communism or socialism.
There are many ways to define idealism, but one thing’s for sure: It’s not all rainbows and butterflies! Some forms of idealism can be quite damaging to societies, while others can be beneficial in certain situations. Is idealism good or bad overall?
What is Idealism?
The Role of Idealism in Societies What is idealism? It’s a belief in what we can create. Idealists believe that there is a better world possible. The philosophy of idealism believes that the world can be made a better place. They want to live in an environment where they are not treated unfairly because of their race, gender, or class. They want to live in a society where people do not have to worry about things such as violence and rape.
In essence, they want to create a perfect society of world without conflict or tension in which everyone is satisfied with their life. Is idealism good? Yes! To some extent, it is good because it forces us to strive for something greater than we currently have.
But on the other hand, many disagree with this idea because sometimes too much striving may lead to losing sight of what you actually want. For example, if someone strives for wealth but does not realize how important their family is, then this person will lose sight of who he really wants to be.
Another problem is that many idealists don’t think pragmatically enough so they end up running into problems when trying to implement change. That’s why it may not always be good.
In conclusion, I feel like Idealism has both its pros and cons. But should always remain at the heart of philosophy as long as humans exist.
Beginning of Idealism
The term idealism is often used to refer to a number of closely related philosophical positions. It may be understood simply as the belief that reality is fundamentally sound. This use of the term is found in English as early as 1615.
Alternatively, idealism can denote some form of direct or indirect realism about what we perceive. It can also refer to a kind of moral or political philosophy that holds that human beings should act according to principles that will produce an ideal society – even if this involves radical social reform.
Those who are considered idealists in this sense are people who believe that justice and happiness are possible for everyone through personal effort. Idealism is usually contrasted with other philosophies such as realism (or pessimism) or materialism (or rationalism).
The Good
Idealism is a philosophy that believes in building societies around ideas that are generally seen as good. This means that an idealistic society would be one where people were not judged by how much money they had or what social class they were. But instead were judged by their character.
It is generally accepted that this type of society would lead to a better quality of life for everyone. They think each person would be valued as an individual. The downside to this kind of society is that it often leads to less stability.
An idealistic society becomes very fragile when its ideals are threatened because it depends heavily on those ideals in order to function properly. If a group of people who have more power than others tries to force those ideals to change then everything falls apart.
The Bad
Some people may say that idealism is good but in reality, it can be bad. Idealism has its positive aspects such as being open-minded, creative, and willing to try new things. Idealism is countered by its negative aspects like being easily influenced by others.
Sometimes people can do something because they think they should do rather than what they want to do. For example, if a friend or family member asks you to help them with something then you might do it even if you don’t really want to because you feel like it’s your duty or obligation. Idealists can also be unrealistic about situations that cause problems. For Example, when someone starts their own business without ever having worked in one before or plans for a future that will never happen no matter how much they wish for it.
Another downside of idealism is its tendency to create divisions among groups. There are two groups of people, an ideal person, and a real person. The realistic person would believe in ideas while the ideal person would not. Eventually, they will come into conflict over which idea they prefer.
The Ugly
To understand why Idealism is not always a good thing, one must first understand what it is. Idealism is a philosophy that believes in having an idea or ideal without considering any practical or political realities.
It is full of hopes and dreams for the future without considering any of the difficulties along the way. when these unrealistic expectations are not met, Idealist followers become disillusioned and discouraged. This can cause others to be less willing to work with them because they do not want to go through that letdown again.
In some extreme cases, this can lead to violence. like those who have been disappointed lash out against those who have failed them before. An example of this is seen in Rwanda during the genocide. Hutu extremists killed many Tutsi and moderate Hutu. They blame all their ills on those who had previously betrayed them by giving up power.
Role of Idealism
The Role of Idealism in Societies is a complex one.
There are two ways to look at it. On one hand, idealism can be seen as a driving force for societal improvement. On the other hand, idealism is often used as an excuse for unproductive or harmful behavior that harms society. It’s important to know the difference between these two types of motivations because they have different outcomes.
You should try to use your idealistic urges for good and make sure you’re not just using them to justify bad behavior. For example, imagine if there was no air pollution- would our planet still be beautiful? We’d never really know because pollution has existed since factories began releasing their toxic fumes into the atmosphere. But what if we could find a way to clean up the atmosphere so that there were no more dirty clouds? What if we could give plants life again?
Results of Idealism from its origin to now
At the beginning of Idealism, there was the idea that if we could do things on a higher level, it would be better. A society where no one had to worry about what they were going to eat or drink. This is where Idealism came from.
But Idealists have gone too far in their quest for perfection. They have created a society that does not allow any form of freedom. In a sense, this is bad as it restricts people’s way of life. Also at the same time, some people think this is good. They get everything they want without having to work for anything.
It has been debated many times whether idealism is good or bad. It also can be seen as both depending on who you ask. Some people think because of the fact that everyone gets what they need. It is a utopia-like place with no one being denied something. Others might say that it is bad because denying someone something on purpose (even if it’s just food) means that someone will end up unhappy even though others are happy.
Another argument in favor of Idealism is the idea of sharing. If everyone shares then every person will get more than enough. Whereas those who cannot contribute might not feel so great about themselves.
Conclusion
Idealism is a powerful tool that can be used for both good and bad. What we do with it is up to us. It’s difficult to determine whether idealism is good or bad, but there are many reasons why you should never give up on your ideals.
While idealism is an important part of society, without the right balance it can lead to disaster.
When all these factors are combined, what kind of world do you want? Do you want one where people strive for their ideals or a world where people abandon them in order to have happiness?
